From novelty to necessity: How motivational data realigned a product with its true audience

A move from an underperforming 0.01% click-through rate to 10% from finding the audience that was there all along.

The Problem

A serious product, marketed to the wrong people

Yolked’s hero product, Fortetropin®, is a clinically studied protein enhancer designed to support muscle health, recovery, and longevity. It’s backed by serious science, and it was being marketed to the wrong people entirely.

The existing campaign had drifted toward the fitness novelty ecosystem: trend-driven content, taste tests, youth-oriented social formats built to generate impressions, not intent. The former campaign showed an underperforming click-through rate of 0.01%. Not a creative failure, but a targeting failure. The high-intent buyers who needed exactly what Fortetropin delivers were present. They were just ignored.

Phantom Audience

Novelty seekers dominated impressions. High-intent buyers were invisible.

Mismatch

Yolked’s messaging spoke trends and taste. Real buyers needed science and duty.

The Solution

One assumed audience. Two real ones.

MotivationMetrics applied its emotional needs framework to identify who was actually motivated to buy, not by asking about Yolked, but by asking about fitness recovery decisions. Asking about a relatively unknown brand creates bias. Asking about a problem reveals needs. The analysis surfaced two emotionally distinct audiences that shared core values but required completely different messaging. MotivationMetrics took a different approach, working in conjunction with Clean Data Alliance and Base3.

Segment A

High-Achieving Women 40+

Motivation: Longevity, mobility, science
Strength view: Independence
Decision style: Risk-aware, deliberate, needs education before purchase

Discipline / Autonomy Routine / Safety Vitality / Potential
Segment B

Men of Duty & Honor

Motivation: Discipline, measurable progress
Strength view: Responsibility
Decision style: Identity-driven, acts quickly once convinced

Duty / Ethics Setting an Example / Recognition Discipline / Autonomy

A shared funnel had been failing both groups simultaneously. Too fast for Segment A, wrong language for Segment B. Separate messaging architectures, built around each segment’s emotional needs, replaced the one-size-fits-all approach.

The Result

The right audience was there all along

10%
New click-through rate, up from an underperforming 0.01%, after messaging was rebuilt around emotional need, not novelty (a 1,000x increase in CTR).
Right Audience
High-intent buyers had always been there. MotivationMetrics found and activated them.

Attention rose quickly. Decisions, meaning sales, lagged. Products that require belief cannot be sold cold. MotivationMetrics clarified who the real audience is. Education determines when they buy.
